Spring/Summer Update May 17, 2020

LO Little League Families,

It is with profound sadness that I am announcing the cancellation of the Lake Oswego Little League Spring/Summer season. After careful consideration, the LOLL Board of Directors voted to cancel the season yesterday. Many factors were involved with this decision. Our biggest concern is the health and safety of our players and their families. The government's plans for reopening Oregon made it clear that baseball fields would not be accessible to our league until possibly July. Social distancing guidelines would be very difficult to implement on the baseball field. All the other leagues in Oregon District 4 Little League have already cancelled with the exception of Tigard. All of these factors played a role in the Board's decision to cancel the season.

On behalf of the LOLL Board of Directors, coaches, and volunteers, I would like to thank all of you for your patience and for sticking with us to this point. We have simply run out of options and it is frustrating for all of us. While we are canceling the regular season, we are hopeful that opportunities may still arise to get on the baseball fields this summer. When the parks and ball fields open, LOLL coaches are discussing offering some practices and informal games for players that are interested. We are also looking at potentially offering a full baseball league in the fall, similar to our traditional spring season, for the older age divisions. All twelve year old players will remain eligible through the end of 2020.

Refunds for spring season registration fees will be issued soon. However, the LOLL Board would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating a portion of your players registration fees to league. The league incurs some expenses even when we are not actively playing baseball. LOLL is a 501(c)(3) organization and donations to the league are tax deductible as a charitable donations. If you would like to donate a portion, or all of your player's spring registration fees to the league, please respond to this email. Otherwise, refunds will be issued in the next couple of weeks.
